Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said intelligence from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.
