It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
